THE BOOK FAIR
The first Book Fair that I’ve ever attended has come and gone yesterday. Was it a success? I believe it was, for other people. It was especially good for fiction writers, but to be honest, with a memoir, I felt like a fish out of water.
The Book Fair was a tremendously good idea, and there certainly was a brilliant buzz in the room with 25 other writers all set up at their tables. Perhaps one of the most valuable things to come out of it was the opportunity for networking with other writers, and I did make connections to be on a podcast later this year.
I sold one book and bought 3 others, so that’s not really progress. But it did help to clarify how comfortable I am in that market-place type of situation, which is not much at all.
However, on the stall selling fantasy books, I did get a lovely green dragon brooch, so that was an unexpected bonus.

This may not have been the experience you hoped for, but don't let that get you down. There are so many places looking for speakers and writers with life experience that resonates with their audience. You will find more of those audiences as you continue this path.
On the flip side, let me add that you have done more brave things with your publishing and marketing efforts than I think I might be able to do. Your notes on all of these are very inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing them with your readers!
Rose, you went - and that's an achivement in itself. Book fairs work for some and not for others - it's a nerve-wracking experience. And glad you found other writers; you never know what that might lead to. A thought - do you have WIs in the area around you? Women's Institute/ writers' groups/ book groups are always looking for speakers. But WIs especially. You can register with the HQ of the county. I always find that quite fun, because they re always lovely women and interested in what you have to say. By the way, love the Dragon brooch! Could do with one of those in, with me living in Wales. x
